The Columbia County Department of Social Services is first in upstate New York to initiate the Parenting Education and Intervention Program, designed by Northeast Parent & Child Society. The funding to initiate this program in Columbia County was provided in part by Hudson River Bank and Trust Company Foundation, Rheinstrom Hill Community Foundation, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).

“Parenting education and intervention is the cornerstone of successful work with at-risk families to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect,” says Columbia County DSS Commissioner Paul Mossman. “We are delighted that Northeast has brought this program to our community.”

“The Hudson River Bank & Trust Co. Foundation and Rheinstrom Hill Community Foundation are

Clinicians in all Northeast Parent & Child Society programs are already highly skilled in teaching optimal parenting techniques to help those in our care. In creating this new program, Northeast is now seeking to share this expertise throughout 11 counties of the greater Capital Region, and empower parents to meet the challenge of raising responsible, cooperative, and happy children.

As a community service, and working in conjunction with county Departments of Social Services, Northeast will provide this program free-of-charge to parents, foster parents, and other caregivers of severely at-risk youth.

While the number of families in crisis continues to rise in the current environment of diminishing resources, Northeast Parent & Child Society is striving to create broad systemic change that empowers citizens in the Greater Capital Region of New York to take better care of their own poor and troubled children. Each year, thousands of our neighbors join us in our mission to protect our children, preserve their families, and strengthen our community. We provide a full array of education, prevention, foster care and residential programs, and since 1888 we have helped more than 100,000 of the most troubled members of our community change their lives for the better.
