Chatham Little League Receives Grant

June 03, 2007

(Chatham NY)

The Chatham Little League announced that it has received a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Hudson River Bank Trust Co. Foundation earmarked to assist in the construction a new indoor sports complex.   “We cannot begin to express the level of our gratitude to the Foundation.  Without their support, the Little League might not have been able to realize the goal of helping the youth of our community to attain whatever lofty goals they set for themselves.” said Chatham Little League President Brian Lossow.

Chatham Little League (CLL) is a local baseball and softball organization serving the greater Chatham area and has been a chartered member of Little League, Inc. of Williamsport, PA since 1951.  Last year alone, the league registered over 400 local boys and girls between the ages of five and sixteen on 36 separate teams, which reflects a double digit growth over the past three years and is currently the largest youth organization in the Chatham area.  2006 was especially successful year since the CLL entered a team in each of nine separate divisions in the District 15 Championships, winning five divisions and finishing runner-up in two others.

As part of the long-term strategy to increase the competitive ability of local area athletes against the larger, more well established Districts, CLL has committed to building a new indoor sports complex to allow local young athletes the option of year-round indoor training on over ten thousand square feet of open turf field for multi-configurations to allow practice during the cold winter months.  The Sports Complex will be open to all local teams or groups.
“The HRBT Foundation feels a special connection with the organizations helping to shape and assist our children.  We are especially gratified to be able to facilitate the Little League’s efforts to increase the quality of coaching and training of our young athletes.”, said Tony Jones,  a director of the Foundation.

The Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation was established in 1998 to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations.  The Foundation continues its charitable giving with an emphasis on education, youth development, arts and culture, historic preservation, health care, human services and community development.  For additional information regarding the grant application process, please contact Holly Rappleyea at (518) 671-6226 or visit our website at
