Hudson River Bank & Trust Donates $62K to Eddy Visiting Nurses for Homecare Monitoring Equipment

December 12, 2007

(Catskill NY)

The Eddy Visiting Nurse Association’s (Eddy VNA) Catskill office has received a $62,000 gift from the Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation to benefit the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment to monitor chronically ill patients in Columbia and Greene counties.

The funds will enable Eddy VNA to become the first in the region to fully equip all nurses and physical therapists with portable tool kits and supplies needed to test and monitor patients on Coumidin, a blood-thinning drug that helps inhibit the formation of blood clots. The anticoagulant technology will allow nurses to perform a blood test in the field -- while in the patient’s home -- and to get the critical test results they need immediately without waiting to take the test sample to the laboratory.

“We consider the health of our neighbors as one of the most important concerns in today’s society.”  said Marilyn Herrington, President of the Hudson River Bank and Trust Foundation.  “We are extremely gratified with the great service that the Eddy provides and we are honored to be able to assist those efforts.”

“The Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation has a longstanding history of caring for and serving the community,” says Michelle Mazzacco, vice president of Eddy VNA. “This latest and most generous donation is a prime example of how they are positively contributing to the quality of life for patients in the Twin Counties.”

Having portable testing tools will reduce the time nurses and physicians must wait for data they need for treatment, which will improve patient outcomes. It also will improve the capacity, productivity and efficiency of the nursing workforce, and reduce total healthcare costs.

In May, the Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation donated $10,000 to Eddy VNA for the expansion of its telehomecare program in Columbia and Greene counties. Telehomecare technology has proven to dramatically reduce re-hospitalizations of chronically ill patients and visits to the emergency room.

The Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation was established in 1998 to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations. The foundation continues its charitable giving with an emphasis on education, youth development, arts and culture, historic preservation, health care, human services and community development.
